Welcome!

We are a brand new co-op serving the Roanoke Valley area of Virginia, using Charlotte Mason principles. Many of us have been implementing Charlotte Mason methods in our individual home schools for years, and are excited to meet together to offer our children a group setting to share learning opportunities and make new friends. If you are interested in learning more about Charlotte Mason and how to incorporate her methods in your home school, we have a book study group that meets every first Saturday of the month.

When are we meeting?

Every other Friday from 1-4pm. Off weeks will have opportunities for field trips and folk dancing. Orientation will be Sept 5. Fall Class Dates are September 12, September 26, October 10, October 24, November 7, November 21, December 5, December 19. Spring Class Dates have not been finalized, but will resume in March.

Where are we meeting?

St. John Lutheran Church

What are we learning?

We will start each meeting with a hymn, a folk song, some movement and an opportunity for recitation. For Fall, everyone will have Nature Study and Handicrafts. Form 1 will have Aesop and Fairy Tales, while the older children will study Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing.

In the Spring, Shakespeare will be swapped for Plutarch, Art for Handicrafts. We will continue Nature Study.

We will not have assigned homework.

How much will this cost?

Facility donation + materials for Handicrafts should run around $50 per family per season. Costs have not been finalized and that estimate is subject to change. Fees will be due at Orientation.

What Supplies Will We Need?

We will be using the Folgers edition of Much Ado About Nothing. A PDF version can be downloaded for printing at this link. Or purchase through Amazon for about $6.50 a copy. Each child in Form 2 or 3+ requires their own copy.

Nature Study will require a blank journal for Nature Journaling and colored pencils. Advanced students may use water colors, if preferred.

Handicrafts supplies will be provided and a fee for supplies included in each families fees.

When can I register?

Registration is open now. The deadline to register is August 15. Other important dates are noted on the Registration Form.

I’m not ready to Register for Fall. Can I register in Spring?

Yes! We will open a new Registration opportunity in the Spring. Each season will be completely independent, so you will not be behind or need to catch up.

How can I be involved?

This is not a drop off co-op. We have many roles to fill, from hall/door monitor to assistant teacher to room mom. We also have a nursery/preschool room for younger siblings. You are also welcome to join in the planning or other administration teams. Let us know your preferences on the Registration Form. Pick everything you are comfortable doing and we will assign a task for you.
