We decided to carry on conversation of our Code of Conduct here at the forum. We are focusing mostly on practical considerations. For example:

  • Do not leave the building unattended
  • Do not wander the Church (all of our classrooms are on the second floor, but there are bathrooms on the first floor we may need to use occasionally with adult supervision)
  • Do not touch/handle Church property, particularly electronics

That sort of thing, but worded in a more positive friendly way than I have here. We want to be a pleasure and continue to be welcomed by our hosts who are graciously opening the building to us for only the cost of utilities.

Code of Conduct

These guidelines are meant to give us a framework for how students are expected to behave during ACOW classes. They will mainly focus on where students are allowed to be and how we treat the building. St. John Lutheran has been so gracious to allow us the use of their building and we certainly want to leave it each week in as good, if not better condition than when we found it. Teachers may have specific rules other than these for their classrooms. These guidelines are in no particular order.

  • Arrive with a cheerful spirit and a curious mind, ready to engage with new experiences and ideas. Philippians 3:13 “Forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead...”

  • Be respectful and kind to others, their thoughts and ideas, and to our surroundings.

  • Students must ask for and receive permission before leaving a classroom.

  • Students are to be supervised at all times.

  • Room Moms are to escort students to the bathrooms during breaks as well as escort them to the Community Room for Handicraft and at Release time.

  • Students are to remain in the building unless they are going out for a class and accompanied by adults.

  • No playing in the bathroom or with the water fountains.

  • Bathroom breaks are to be taken between classes, if possible. Room Mom’s should be present in the hall to make sure children are behaving appropriately. There are bathrooms with multiple stalls available at the bottom of the stairs if a line starts to form for the single bathrooms upstairs.

  • We have no need to be downstairs unless to use the bathrooms mentioned above.

  • Elevators are for use by physically disabled persons only.

  • Students are permitted only in the rooms designated for our use – the four assigned classrooms and Community Room. Some of the other rooms are set up for the church and they need to not be disturbed.

  • Any electronics in the rooms are to be used by adults only.

  • We will walk through the hallways to and from our classrooms. No running or rough-housing inside the building.

  • Gentle treatment of the furniture is expected. Feet remain on the floor, not on the furniture.

  • At the end of each day teachers and Room Moms are to facilitate the cleaning of their classrooms. Blinds should be closed, toys put away, surfaces cleaned off and any trash picked up off the floor. If there is food in the trash, it should be taken out. Lights are to be turned off and the door closed by the last person out. Students can then be escorted to the Community Room where they can help clean any remaining mess and set the room back up. A few Moms can supervise the Community Room while the rest be sure the bathrooms and hallways are in good condition. If we keep tidy as we go and all work together, it won’t take long at the end of the day! Students will be released from the Community Room when their parent is ready to take them home.

Please sign below that you have received and reviewed these guidelines with each of your enrolled students.
