We've tossed around several ideas for field trips. Please list your ideas and whether you are able to coordinate the field trip below. A few weeks before each field trip, we'll post separate sign ups so the coordinating mom can finalize group rates, etc.

Eileen found this series that VT is putting on for homeschoolers. https://fralinlifesci.vt.edu/education-and-outreach/homeschooling-stem-club.html

We are looking at doing the Rocketry field trip in Dec (Dec 12). It is free except for the cost of a parking pass.

Since we have discussed doing a nature field trip and maybe baseball park earlier in the fall, I thought this one would fit the timeline best. We can work backwards for the other field trip dates.

So far our dates look like this:

Sept 5 Orientation

Sept 12 co-op

Sept 19 ??

Sept 26 co-op

Oct 3 ??

Oct 10 co-op

Oct 17 ??

Oct 24 co-op (this is the weekend Great Room is used for service, so we have no conflicts)

Oct 31 ??

Nov 7 co-op

Nov 14 ??

Nov 21 co-op

Nov 28 ?? (Friday after Thanksgiving)

Dec 5 co-op

Dec 12 (tentatively) Rocketry Field trip at VT

Dec 19 co-op

I think we pass on planning a field trip on the Friday after Thanksgiving. Unless everyone else wants to do something that day, but I know we most likely wouldn't participate.

I would like to maybe snag Oct 3rd for a Nature Study field trip. I can start calling around and making some plans. Are we aiming for free and close by? Or is distance and a little cost okay?

Maybe we look at Sept 19th as a dance day?

Yes, that works.

Maybe we can discuss our personal budgets for field trips on Friday?

I wanted to pop this info here from our discussion Saturday:

Potential non-friday field trip days:

Hokie BugFest 10/18 starts at 10:00am. My fam is already planning on this one so just let me know if you plan to come too and we can be sure to meet up. This is a BIG event. And totally free.

The second one was the Sheep and Goat Festival at the NRV Fairgrounds in Dublin on Sept 27th. Our family and the Fellows are already planning on this one as well, so let me or Eileen know if you want to meet up! Again, totally free (except for food vendors and craft vendors). It’s a great “cheap” fall event to go to as they have had pumpkin painting, soap felting, hay maze, story time, goat milking demonstration, sheep shearing demonstration, a tractor ride and more in past years.

Those both sound fun! I'll put it on my calendar and coordinate with you closer to the dates.
